Hair Transplant Cost Calculator for UK Patients

Estimate your grafts, see what you would pay in pounds and euros, and compare the cost at home with treatment at our certified clinic in Riga.

If you are researching a hair transplant from the UK, the first thing you want is a realistic number. Costs are not fixed like a shelf price, because the total depends on how many grafts your case needs and which technique places them. This page is designed to help you build that estimate yourself: work out roughly how many grafts your hair loss calls for, apply an indicative per-graft rate, and see how the figure compares between a typical British clinic and our clinic in Riga. Every amount is shown in pounds for guidance and confirmed in euros once a surgeon has assessed you.

Step one: estimate your grafts

Graft numbers are driven mainly by the extent of your hair loss, which surgeons describe using the Norwood scale for men and the Ludwig scale for women. As a rough guide, early recession at the temples might need 1,000 to 1,800 grafts, a receding hairline with some crown thinning often needs 1,800 to 2,500, and more advanced loss across the crown and mid-scalp can require anywhere from 3,200 to 4,500. These are starting points, not promises — the density of your donor area and the look you want both shift the figure. For a quick interactive estimate, use our graft calculator, then bring that number here.

Step two: apply a per-graft rate

Once you have a graft estimate, the maths is simple: multiply your grafts by a per-graft rate. In Britain, per-graft prices at established clinics commonly sit between £3 and £6, with London and other big-city clinics towards the top. At our Riga clinic, FUE starts from about £1.90 per graft and DHI from about £2.20, because clinic overheads in Latvia are lower while the surgical standard is not. So a 2,500-graft case works out at roughly £7,500 to £15,000 in the UK, or from around £4,750 with us.

Indicative cost by Norwood stage

Norwood stageTypical graftsIndicative FUE total (Riga)
Norwood 21,000–1,800from £1,900
Norwood 31,800–2,500from £3,400
Norwood 42,500–3,200from £4,750
Norwood 5–63,200–4,500from £6,080

Step three: count the whole trip

An honest comparison includes travel, not just the surgical fee. Return flights between UK airports and Riga are frequent and often cheap, commonly £80 to £200 if you book ahead, and most patients stay only one or two nights. Add that to the treatment figure and you still have a meaningful saving against the same procedure at home in the great majority of cases. What you should never do is chase the lowest possible headline price at the expense of surgical quality — value means a fair price for careful work, not the cheapest room in town.

What the price should include

When you compare quotes, make sure you are comparing like with like. A complete package should cover your consultation and written plan, the full procedure and all materials, local anaesthetic and same-day medication, an aftercare kit, follow-up reviews and a graft survival assurance. Ours does. Flights and any hotel are booked and paid for separately, which keeps your travel budget entirely in your hands. For the full breakdown, see our hair transplant price list.

From estimate to firm quote

A calculator gives you a sensible range; only an assessment gives you a fixed figure. A free online consultation lets our team look at photographs of your scalp, agree a graft number, and send an itemised quote in writing before you book any travel. There is no obligation, and it turns the ranges on this page into a price you can actually plan around. Whether you are weighing up a clinic near home or a short trip abroad, starting with a realistic estimate keeps the whole decision grounded.
